So. I actually don't have any clue what to say on this blog.

I'm too old to even think about doing this.

Here goes...

Is it bad that I feel secretly relieved that the gulf currents and prevailing winds are pushing the oil away from my little portion of the coast? The whole affair makes me sick, but I have to admit that I am glad that that damned well was a little to the east of where I am.

That makes me a horrible person, doesn't it?

I was only recently expounding - IRL - on the exciting new discoveries in the deep gulf (coral reefs, tons of new species, including two new pancake batfish, etc,) and the larger gulf region (pod of orcas in the Gulf, pink/albino dolphin in a briny lake in Louisiana). Now all that is if not already dead, threatened. But I can still go to the beach here and supposedly fish here and act like it is all not happening, a luxury unavailable to my neighbors to the east of where I reside.

But not all is happy-go-lucky along my supposedly copacetic coast.

I visited my local Asian grocery market last week. No fish. No crabs. No clams. No oysters. The entire fish section was closed, bleached and finished. I may swim in the gulf still, but I am pretty sure I won't be making any cochina broth for a long, sad time.
